Los Angeles Fantasy for Two Pianos was composed in 1991-92 at the encouragement of the late Don Brandon Ray, then director of UCLA Extension's film music program. The composition was a snapshot in time of the rigors and challenges one faces driving in Los Angeles traffic, recently documented as being the most congested in the world.
The piece’s relentless energy mirrors the efforts drivers put forth in safely navigating the LA freeways. The first performance was in 1992 at the Bing Theater in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and broadcast live on KUSC-FM. The performers were Grammy-winning pianist Gloria Cheng and Zita Carno, principal pianist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Los Angeles Fantasy salutes all safe non-distracted drivers!
