Much gratitude to Andy Markley at Art101.com for this fun, surreal video of my 8th piano prelude. My first ten preludes were begun in 2009 under the encouragement and guidance of Steve Rothstein, PhD., and completed in 2017-2018. Special thanks to friend and gifted pianist Robert Thies for his feedback and editing in the final stages of engraving. Many thanks to Jody Hughes for her fine engraving work on the score.
Oh Liberty!
I wrote Oh Liberty! in honor of the concept of liberty, all America's veterans (including my late father), and the Liberty Memorial Monument and Museum in Kansas City, Missouri (where I grew up).
Regardless of where we each may stand politically, there's little argument that the concept of "liberty" is an important one.
Sincerest thanks to tenor Nathan Granner for allowing me to use his performance of Oh Liberty! for this video, and to Mark Koval for a wonderful orchestration. Oh Liberty! has been performed by two symphony orchestras so far — the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra (Memorial Day 2005), and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (Independence Day 2010).
